Judith Herrin

Judith Herrin (born 1942) is a British historian, archaeologist and Byzantinist. She studied in Cambridge, Birmingham, Paris and Munich and took part in archaeological research projects. Before her retirement, she taught at King’s College London, including as Professor of Late Antique and Byzantine Studies; from 1991, she also held the chair of Byzantine History at Princeton University. Herrin is the author and editor of numerous works on the history, culture and art history of Late Antiquity and the Byzantine Empire. In 2016, she received the Heineken Prize for History for her research on the early medieval Mediterranean world.
