Joseph Ponthus

Joseph Ponthus (1978–2021) studied literature and social work in Reims and Nancy. He then worked for ten years as a social worker in the Paris suburbs. After moving to Brittany in 2015, he spent two and a half years working in fish-processing plants and slaughterhouses. His novel “À la ligne. Feuillets d’usine” was published in 2019, attracting considerable attention in France and being translated into several languages. For the book, Ponthus received, among other awards, the 2019 Grand Prix RTL Lire, the Prix Jean Amila-Meckert and the Prix Eugène Dabit du roman populiste. He died of cancer in 2021.
