John Sykes, born in 1956 in Southport near Liverpool, is an English author, translator and city guide. He studied history at Oxford and in Manchester and lived in London before moving to Germany. Sykes wrote several travel guides to London, northern England and Great Britain, as well as books about England and its people. Together with Birgit Weber, he co-authored “London – abseits der ausgetretenen Pfade” (“London: Off the Beaten Path”). He also wrote a book about London in the form of a Sherlock Holmes story.
