John Stuart Mill (1806–1873) was a British philosopher, economist, and political thinker. He initially worked for the East India Company and later served as a member of Parliament. A major representative of classical liberalism and utilitarianism, he addressed individual liberty, the common good, the limits of state power, and political economy. His principal works include *Principles of Political Economy*, *On Liberty*, *Utilitarianism*, and *The Subjection of Women*, which was associated with his collaboration with Harriet Taylor Mill. Mill also advocated women’s equality and representative democracy.
