John Hersey

John Hersey (1914–1993) was an American writer, reporter, and journalist. He worked for publications including Time, Life, and The New Yorker. His first novel, *A Bell for Adano*, won the Pulitzer Prize in 1945. He achieved international recognition with *Hiroshima* (1946), a report on the aftermath of the atomic bombing. His other works include the novels *The Wall* (1950) and *The Algiers Motel Incident* (1968). Hersey was born in Tianjin, China, and died in Key West, Florida.
