John Burnside

John Burnside (1955–2024) was a Scottish writer, poet and novelist. He studied English and European languages at Cambridge and published poetry, short stories, novels and autobiographical works. His notable books include A Lie About My Father, How to Be Someone Else, I Put a Spell on You, What Light There Is, Glister and Ashland & Vine. Burnside received numerous awards, including the T. S. Eliot Prize, the Petrarca Prize, the Spycher Literature Prize and the Whitbread Poetry Award. In 2023, he received the David Cohen Prize for lifetime achievement.
