Johannes V. Jensen

Johannes V. Jensen (1873–1950) was a Danish writer. He was born in Farsø in Jutland’s Himmerland region and initially studied medicine in Copenhagen, but abandoned his studies. He then wrote adventure and entertainment novels for illustrated magazines. His breakthrough came with the short-story collection »Himmerlandsvolk« (1898). His major works include the historical novel »The Fall of the King« (1900) and the six-volume work »The Long Journey« (1908–1922). He also published three volumes of stories from Himmerland. Jensen was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1944.
