Johannes Saltzwedel

Johannes Saltzwedel, born in 1962, studied in Tübingen and Oxford and holds a doctorate in German studies. He worked as an editor at SPIEGEL for around three decades. Saltzwedel has published literary-historical and bibliographical studies, particularly on the Goethe era and Rudolf Borchardt. His books include Das Gesicht der Welt. Physiognomisches Denken in der Goethezeit (1993), Finderglück (2010), and Werthers Welt (2023). He also edited, among other works, a transcript of Hermann Diels’s lecture Griechische Philosophie and numerous SPIEGEL/DVA books. His scholarly and personal interests include Goethe, classical and Romantic intellectual history, and antiquity.
