Johannes Horn was born on 23 March 1943 in Wüstegiersdorf near Waldenburg in Silesia. During his medical studies, he took a keen interest in psychological and philosophical questions and wrote his first essays and treatises. Alongside scientific publications, he wrote about social and ethical issues in medicine, including “Alle Zeit der Welt,” “Stille, du bleibende Sprache,” “Der mündige Patient,” and “Goethe, der größte Chirurg.” From 1987 to 2008, Horn was chief physician of the Department of General and Visceral Surgery at Städtisches Krankenhaus München-Harlaching. He had already developed an interest in literature and painting during his school years and wrote his first poems at that time.
