Joachim Zelter was born in Freiburg im Breisgau in 1962. He studied and taught literature in Tübingen and Yale and began working as a freelance writer in 1997. His work consists mainly of prose and theatre texts, often marked by political and tragicomic elements. His novels include Der Ministerpräsident (2010), which was nominated for the longlist of the German Book Prize, Im Feld (2018), Imperia (2020), Die Verabschiebung (2021), and Professor Lear (2022). His literary awards include the Thaddäus Troll Prize (2000) and the LiteraTourNord Prize.
