Joachim Knape

Joachim Knape, born in 1950 in Heiligenstadt, Thuringia, studied German, philosophy, political science and Catholic theology in Göttingen, Regensburg and Bamberg. He received his doctorate in Göttingen in 1982 and completed his habilitation in Bamberg in 1988, gaining the qualification to teach medieval and early modern German philology. In 1991, Knape became professor of general rhetoric at the University of Tübingen; he was given the title of senior professor in 2018. His research areas include rhetorical theory and history, aesthetics, image and media theory, poetics, intellectual history, and the history of the German language and literature and Renaissance humanism.
