Jiro Taniguchi

Jiro Taniguchi (1947–2017) was a Japanese manga artist. He began his career in 1972 with the manga »Kareta Heya«. Alongside crime and boxing stories, he increasingly created works about everyday life and personal experience from the 1980s onward. His best-known works include »The Walking Man«, »The View of the World«, »A Distant Neighborhood«, »The Cartographer« and »The Louvre Collection«. In 1998, he received the Osamu Tezuka Cultural Prize for the series »The Times of Botchan«. »A Distant Neighborhood« was recognized at the Angoulême International Comics Festival in 2003 and won the Max and Moritz Prize for Best Manga in Germany. Taniguchi also collaborated with writers including Natsuo Sekikawa, Masayuki Kusumi and Hiromi Kawakami.
