Jean Paul (born Johann Paul Friedrich Richter) was born in Wunsiedel in 1763 and died in Bayreuth in 1825. The German writer studied theology and philosophy in Leipzig and initially worked as a teacher before achieving success as an author. Inspired by his admiration for Jean-Jacques Rousseau, he published his works under the name Jean Paul. His literary breakthrough came with the novel »Hesperus« in 1795. His notable works also include »Die unsichtbare Loge«, »Siebenkäs«, »Flegeljahre«, »Titan«, and »Vorschule der Ästhetik«.
