Javier Cercas, born in 1962 in Ibahernando in Spain’s Extremadura region, is a Spanish writer and journalist. He gained international recognition with his novel *Soldiers of Salamis*. Cercas also worked as a university lecturer. His work has been translated into more than 30 languages. Among other distinctions, *The Impostor* received the European Book Prize and China’s Taofen Award. His novel *Terra Alta* was awarded the 2019 Premio Planeta.
