Jaroslav Rudis

Born in 1972 in Czechoslovakia, Jaroslav Rudiš is a Czech writer, screenwriter, radio-play author, playwright and journalist. He initially worked, among other things, as a teacher and journalist. His novels include »The Sky Beneath Berlin«, »Grand Hotel«, »The Silence in Prague«, »From the End of Punk in Helsinki«, »National Avenue« and »Winterberg’s Last Journey«. The latter was his first novel written in German and was nominated for the Leipzig Book Fair Prize in 2019. Together with Jaromír 99, he created the graphic novel »Alois Nebel«, which, like several of his novels, was adapted for film. Rudiš received, among other honors, the Usedom Literature Prize, the Literaturhäuser Prize and the Chamisso Prize; in 2021 he was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany and in 2024 the Mörike Prize.
