Jan Kuhlbrodt

Jan Kuhlbrodt, born in 1966 in Karl-Marx-Stadt (now Chemnitz), is a writer, translator and editor. He studied political economy, philosophy and sociology in Leipzig and Frankfurt am Main, and at the German Literature Institute in Leipzig. Before pursuing a literary career, he worked as a teacher in a project for delinquent youths and as an antiquarian bookseller. Kuhlbrodt worked as an editor for the literary journals EDIT and Ostragehege and held teaching posts and guest lectureships in literature and creative writing. He published poetry, prose and essays, including the novels Schneckenparadies and Vor der Schrift. In 2014, he received the Literature Prize of the Saxon State Ministry for Science and the Arts; he was also awarded a writers’ support grant from the Stiftung Niedersachsen and a working grant from the Saxon Cultural Foundation.
