Ingeborg Meyer-Rey

Ingeborg Meyer-Rey (1920–2001) was a German illustrator and children’s author. From 1940, she studied illustration and mural painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin-Charlottenburg. She initially worked as a press artist and illustrator before devoting herself to book art for decades. In 1957, she created Bummi, the title character of an illustrated magazine for preschool children in East Germany. Meyer-Rey was regarded as one of the best-known and most prolific children’s book illustrators in the German Democratic Republic, particularly in the field of picture books for young children.
