Ilse Bintig

Ilse Bintig was born in Hamm, Westphalia. After studying education and training as a dyslexia therapist, she worked as a teacher at primary and lower secondary schools. From 1984 onward, she worked as a freelance writer, producing narratives, short stories, children’s and young adult books, and plays. Her subjects included generational conflicts, dictatorship and war, the end of the war and new beginnings, and children’s everyday lives. In 1989, she won first prize in the WDR writing competition; in 1990, she received the Alfred Müller-Felsenburg Prize for Upright Literature.
