Igor Levit

Igor Levit was born in 1987 in Gorky, Russia (now Nizhny Novgorod), and moved to Germany with his family in 1995. He studied at the Hanover University of Music and became internationally known as a pianist. At the 2005 Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition, he received the silver medal as the youngest participant. His notable recordings include all 32 piano sonatas by Ludwig van Beethoven. Levit is a recipient of the Gilmore Artist Award. In 2020, he received, among other honors, the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany, the International Auschwitz Committee’s “Gift of Memory,” and the Jewish Museum Berlin’s Prize for Understanding and Tolerance.
