Ian Morris is a British historian and classicist. He taught at Stanford University, where he was affiliated with its Archaeology Centre, and also worked at the University of Chicago. From 2000 to 2006, he directed archaeological excavations at Monte Polizzo in Sicily, one of the largest projects of its kind in the western Mediterranean. Morris is the author of numerous books, some of them award-winning. His 2011 book *Why the West Rules—for Now*, published in German as *Wer regiert die Welt?*, became a bestseller.
