Horst Brunner

Horst Brunner (born 1940) is a German scholar of German literature, specializing in the medieval and early modern periods. He studied German, musicology and Latin in Erlangen and Zurich, received his doctorate in 1966 and completed his habilitation in German philology in Erlangen in 1971. After serving as an associate professor in Erlangen, he held the chair of German philology at the University of Würzburg from 1981 to 2006. In 1973, he received the City of Nuremberg’s advancement award. Brunner published numerous books, editions, articles and encyclopedia entries on medieval and early modern German literature, including works on Wolfram von Eschenbach, Walther von der Vogelweide, Konrad von Würzburg, Heinrich Wittenwiler and Hans Sachs, as well as on Meistersang, the literary history of Nuremberg and Würzburg, Trojan literature and representations of war.
