Holger Schmenk

Holger Schmenk (born 1978 in Oberhausen) is a historian with a doctorate. He studied history, German studies and education, and earned his doctorate with a dissertation on the urban history of Xanten in the nineteenth century. He worked as a research assistant at the universities of Duisburg-Essen and Siegen and later served as a school principal. From 2008 onward, his publications focused on the metal scene in Germany’s Ruhr region. This work resulted in the three-volume series “Kumpels in Kutten: Heavy Metal im Ruhrgebiet.”
