Hermann Stresau

Hermann Stresau was born in Milwaukee on January 19, 1894, and grew up in Frankfurt am Main. He studied German literature from 1912 onward. From 1929 to 1933, he worked as a municipal librarian in Berlin; after being dismissed by the National Socialists, he worked as a writer, editor, critic, and translator. In the postwar period, he was regarded as a respected intellectual. He was a member of the Academy for Language and Literature and served as honorary president of the Writers’ Association of Lower Saxony.
