Hermann Fischer

Hermann Fischer (born 1928 in Kranlucken in the Rhön region) studied natural sciences for secondary-school teaching at the University of Würzburg, specializing in biology, chemistry, and geography. From 1952 to 1990, he taught at the Friedrich-Dessauer-Gymnasium in Aschaffenburg and served in its school administration from 1970 onward. Together with Theodor Wohnhaas, he established an organ archive and published numerous works on organ history, including 15 books and articles for specialist encyclopedias such as “Die Musik in Geschichte und Gegenwart” and “The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians.” He also contributed to the preservation of historic organs through expert reports, lectures, and advisory work.
