Hermann Buhl (1924–1957) was an Austrian mountain guide and mountaineer. Born in Innsbruck, he died in 1957 on Chogolisa in the Karakoram. In 1953, he made the first ascent of Nanga Parbat; in 1957, he climbed Broad Peak, his second eight-thousander. His book, published in 1954, became a bestseller and was translated into numerous languages.
