Henry Louis Gates, Jr.

Henry Louis Gates, Jr. is an American literary and cultural scholar and filmmaker. He served as Alphonse Fletcher University Professor and director of the Hutchins Center for African & African American Research at Harvard University. Gates has produced and hosted more than 20 documentary films, including “The Black Church” and “Black Art: In the Absence of Light.” His notable works also include “Stony the Road: Reconstruction, White Supremacy, and the Rise of Jim Crow” and “The Black Church: This Is Our Story, This Is Our Song.” He is also known for hosting the genealogy and genetics series “Finding Your Roots.”
