Henry A. Kissinger

Henry A. Kissinger (1923–2023) emigrated to the United States in 1938. He was a professor of political science at Harvard University, served as national security adviser to the U.S. president from 1969, and was U.S. secretary of state from 1973 to 1977. Kissinger helped shape détente and was involved in the diplomatic groundwork for the U.S. withdrawal from Vietnam and peace efforts in the Middle East. He received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1973. In addition to three-volume political memoirs, he published internationally successful nonfiction books, including China (2011), World Order (2014), and Statecraft (2022).
