Henriette Campan

Jeanne Louise Henriette Campan (1752–1822), née Genet, was Marie Antoinette’s first lady-in-waiting. During the Tuileries insurrection in 1792, she protected the queen from the crowd and left Paris after Marie Antoinette’s capture. Following Robespierre’s downfall, Campan returned to Paris, founded a school in Saint-Germain-en-Laye, and in 1807 was appointed by Napoleon to lead the boarding school at Écouen. Her memoirs were published in 1823.
