Helmut Draxler

Helmut Draxler is an art historian and cultural theorist. From 1992 to 1995, he directed the Kunstverein in Munich. He held professorships in art theory at the Merz Akademie in Stuttgart (1999–2012), the Academy of Fine Arts Nuremberg (2013–2014), and the University of Applied Arts Vienna (2014–2023). His work focused on the intersections of art, politics, philosophy, and psychoanalysis. His publications include “Gefährliche Substanzen. Zum Verhältnis von Kritik und Kunst” (2007), “Abdrift des Wollens. Eine Theorie der Vermittlung” (2017), and “Die Wahrheit der Niederländischen Malerei. Eine Archäologie der Gegenwartskunst” (2021).
