Helmut Bode

Helmut Bode was born in Magdeburg in 1939. After training and working as a steel shipbuilder, he studied heavy mechanical engineering and control engineering, receiving a doctorate in engineering in 1975. From 1961 to 1970, he worked as an expert on lifting equipment and automated systems. He later served as an assistant and senior assistant at the Technical University of Magdeburg. In 1979–80, he taught automation engineering at the University of Maputo in Mozambique. After moving to the Federal Republic of Germany, he worked, among other positions, as a project engineer at Siemens and as a professor of the theoretical foundations of automated systems at the Dresden University of Applied Sciences. Bode published several academic books on control engineering, including works using MATLAB.
