Helen Garner

Helen Garner, born in 1942 in Geelong, Victoria, is an Australian author. Her first major literary success was the novel *Monkey Grip*, published in 1977, for which she also wrote the screenplay for the 1986 film adaptation. Her 2008 novel *The Spare Room* received numerous awards and attracted international attention.
