Hans Rath (born 1965) studied philosophy, German and psychology in Bonn. Before becoming a freelance author, he worked, among other jobs, as a petrol station attendant, construction worker, stage technician, theatre critic and script editor. He subsequently spent almost ten years in human resources, marketing and communications at a newspaper publishing company. From 2004 onward, he worked as a freelance writer of novels and screenplays. He became known in particular for the novel trilogy Man tut, was man kann, Da muss man durch and Was will man mehr; two volumes were adapted for the cinema. His novel Und Gott sprach: Wir müssen reden marked the beginning of the Gott sprach trilogy. Under the pseudonym Moritz Matthies, Rath also published meerkat novels with Edgar Rai.
