Hans-Hermann Hertle (born 1955) is a historian, academic writer and social researcher with a doctorate. He studied history and political science in Marburg and Berlin. From 1985 to 1999, he worked at the Central Institute for Social Science Research and on research projects at Freie Universität Berlin; from 1999, he was affiliated with the Leibniz Centre for Contemporary History Potsdam. Hertle has published numerous books on social and contemporary history and has worked on documentary films and radio features. His awards include the Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau Short Film Prize (1999), the Bavarian Television Award (2000) and the Grimme Award (2005) for “Damals in der DDR”. He also received awards for digital history projects, including “Chronik-der-Mauer.de” and “Heute vor 25 Jahren – @Mauerfall89”.
