Hans Henny Jahnn

Hans Henny Jahnn (1894–1959) was a German writer and dramatist. During his stay in Norway from 1915 to 1918, he wrote his first drama, “Pastor Ephraim Magnus,” which won the Kleist Prize in 1920. His major works include the novel trilogy “Fluss ohne Ufer” (“River Without Shore”). From 1950, Jahnn served as president of the Free Academy of the Arts in Hamburg. He was also an outspoken opponent of nuclear rearmament and West German rearmament, and a critical observer of postwar political developments.
