Gregory Benford

Gregory Benford, born in Alabama in 1941, is an American science fiction author and physicist. He studied theoretical physics in Germany and California and published his first science fiction short story in 1965. His 1980 novel *Timescape* won the Nebula Award. Other notable works include *Cosm* (1998) and the six-volume *Contact* series (1977–1995). Benford taught and conducted research as a physics professor at the University of California, Irvine.
