Gottlob Ernst Schulze

Gottlob Ernst Schulze (1761–1833) was a German philosopher. After studying theology and philosophy in Wittenberg, he was appointed professor of philosophy at the University of Helmstedt in 1788, following the publication of his “Grundriss der philosophischen Wissenschaften.” He later taught at the University of Göttingen. His major work, “Aenesidemus, or On the Foundations of the Elementary Philosophy Delivered by Professor Reinhold in Jena,” was published anonymously in 1792. From a skeptical standpoint, it challenged central claims of Kant’s transcendental philosophy and influenced contemporary debates about Kant and German Idealism.
