Gerhard Meier

Gerhard Meier (1917–2008) was a Swiss German-language writer. He abandoned a degree in building construction in Burgdorf and worked for 33 years in a lamp factory before publishing his first texts at the age of 47. From the 1960s onward, he published poetry and prose. His works include the novel “Der schnurgerade Kanal” (1977) and the prose tetralogy “Baur und Bindschädler” (1979–1990). He received, among others, the Petrarca Prize, the Fontane Prize, the Hermann Hesse Prize, the Gottfried Keller Prize, and the Heinrich Böll Prize.
