Gerhard Maier

Gerhard Maier (1937–2026) was a German Protestant theologian. He served as rector of the Albrecht Bengel House in Tübingen, as prelate in Ulm, and from 2001 to 2005 as bishop of the Evangelical-Lutheran Church in Württemberg. His publications include Das Ende der historisch-kritischen Methode (1974), Die Johannesoffenbarung und die Kirche (1981), and Biblische Hermeneutik (1990; 1994). He also co-edited the Großen Bibellexikon and served as editor and author of several volumes in the Wuppertaler Studienbibel and Edition C Bibelkommentar commentary series.
