Gerdt von Bassewitz

Gerdt Bernhard von Bassewitz (1878–1923) was a German writer and actor. He initially served as an officer but was forced to retire early because of a heart condition. He subsequently worked as an actor and assistant director at the Cologne Municipal Theatre. He became best known for his fairy-tale play *Peterchens Mondfahrt* (*Peter and the Moon*).
