George Steiner

George Steiner (1929–2020), born in Paris, was a literary scholar who taught comparative literature in Geneva and Cambridge. From 1994, he was Professor of Comparative Literature at the University of Oxford, holding the Lord Weidenfeld Chair. He received numerous awards, including the Ludwig Börne Prize in 2003, as well as many honorary doctorates. His published works include The Logocrats. Steiner died in Cambridge in 2020.
