Friedrich W. Hesse studied psychology in Marburg and Düsseldorf, earned his doctorate in Aachen, and completed his habilitation in Göttingen. He was the founding director of the Leibniz Institute for Knowledge Media (IWM), vice president of the Leibniz Association, and holder of the Chair of Applied Cognitive and Media Psychology at the University of Tübingen. His research focuses on technology-based communication scenarios and new forms of knowledge exchange and cooperation. Hesse initiated and led, among other projects, a Leibniz ScienceCampus, a virtual DFG graduate research group, a DFG priority programme, and a DFG research group.
