Franz Hamburger was Professor of Education, specializing in social pedagogy, at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz from 1978 to 2011. His research focused on social pedagogy, youth welfare, migration and minorities, the public role of social work, and international comparisons in social pedagogy. He also worked on peace research and the history of education.
