Frank McCourt

Frank McCourt (1930–2009) was born in Brooklyn to Irish immigrant parents and grew up in Limerick, Ireland. He returned to the United States in 1949 and taught at New York high schools for about three decades. His first book, the autobiographical memoir *Angela’s Ashes*, published in 1996, brought him international recognition. It received the Pulitzer Prize, the National Book Critics Circle Award, and the Los Angeles Times Book Award.
