Frank Fehrenbach

Frank Fehrenbach studied art history, philosophy and history in Tübingen and Basel. He worked at the Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities in Essen, the Bibliotheca Hertziana in Rome and the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florence. From 2005 to 2013, he was a Senior Professor at Harvard University, after which he moved to the University of Hamburg as an Alexander von Humboldt Professor. His publications address subjects including medieval sculpture, Baroque fountains, Goethe, bio art and neorealist film. A major focus of his work is Leonardo da Vinci and the category of “liveliness” in early modern art discourse. His research centers on the relationship between nature and art.
