Francis Ponge (1899, Montpellier–1988, Le Bar-sur-Loup) was a French writer and poet. He studied law in Paris and Strasbourg. In 1926 he published «Douze petits écrits» (Twelve Little Writings); his major collection «Le Parti pris des choses» (The Voice of Things) appeared in 1942. Ponge’s writing moves between poetry and prose. He was a member of the Communist Party from 1937 to 1947 and was also active in the Résistance during the Second World War.
