Frances Hodgson Burnett (1849–1924) was an English writer. After her father’s death, she emigrated with her family to Knoxville, Tennessee, in 1865, where she began writing for newspapers and magazines. Over the course of her life, she wrote more than 40 novels and children’s books, including Little Lord Fauntleroy, A Little Princess and The Secret Garden. These works are among the best-known classics of children’s literature and have been adapted for film several times. Burnett died in New York in 1924.
