Florian Hartleb

Florian Hartleb (born 1979 in Passau, Germany) is a political scientist. He studied at Eastern Illinois University and the University of Passau, and in 2004 earned a doctorate from Chemnitz University of Technology with a thesis on left- and right-wing populism. Hartleb taught at institutions including the University of Bonn, the Catholic University of Eichstätt, the Munich School of Politics and the Bundeswehr Command and Staff College. He also worked as a consultant and expert for public institutions; among other roles, he prepared an expert report on the far-right background of the 2016 attack at Munich’s Olympia shopping centre. His publications include “Rechts- und Linkspopulismus” (2004), “Die Stunde der Populisten” (2017) and “Einsame Wölfe. Der neue Terrorismus rechter Einzeltäter” (2018).
