Flavius Josephus

Flavius Josephus was born in Jerusalem in 37 or 38 CE into a Jewish family and died probably after 100 CE. During the Jewish War against Rome, he served as a military commander in Galilee. After being captured, he changed sides and advised the Romans in their campaign against the Jewish rebels and during the capture of Jerusalem. He later received Roman citizenship and devoted himself to writing. His major works include The Jewish War and Antiquities of the Jews, a history of the Jewish people.
