Felwine Sarr

Felwine Sarr, born in 1972 in Niodior, Senegal, is a writer, musician, publisher, and economist. He was a professor of economics at Gaston Berger University in Saint-Louis and taught Francophone culture and African philosophy at Duke University in Durham. Together with Achille Mbembe, he founded the Ateliers de la Pensée, a forum for intellectual debate in Africa. His best-known works include Afrotopia and Restitution: The Return of African Cultural Heritage, co-authored with Bénédicte Savoy. In 2018, Sarr and Savoy were commissioned by the French government to prepare the restitution of African cultural objects; in 2021, Time magazine included them among the 100 most influential people of the year.
