Fahimeh Farsaie was born in Tehran in 1952. In Iran, she worked as an editor and as a film and literary critic for several newspapers. Because of her commitment to socially engaged art and literature, she was imprisoned for 18 months under the Shah; under the Khomeini government, she was persecuted for a story opposing the war. Since 1983, she has published numerous essays and worked as a freelance journalist for radio and newspapers, including the taz, Freitag, Deutsche Welle and Saarländischer Rundfunk. She received Iran’s Tamascha television prize for young authors, the Barans Fund Prize for literature in exile, and several literature and screenwriting fellowships in Germany.
